It’s a fairy tale. It’s a musical, and Idina Menzel. You’re welcome.

Various versions of Snow Queen have been in and out of production since the Walt days.

The Brizzi Brothers (“The Flamebird” sequence in Fantasia/2000, The opening 10 minutes of Hunchback), were said to have done a fairly incredible pitch in the late 1990’s only to be shut down and moved to an even more incredible version of Don Quixote, which was also shut down.

Recently the film bounced around between directors most recently with Dean Wellins, and was famously shut down after Princess and the Frogs’ fairly unsuccessful showing and then put back into production after Tangled’s super successful showing (and I’m sure, positive buzz on Brave didn’t help) with Chris Buck (who’s co-director on Tazan, Kevin Lima directed Indina Menzel in Enchanted) with the less “princessy” name Frozen.
