Marvel’s Big Hero Six (created by Man Of Action Co-founders Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau) is schededuled to be the next animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios (well, after Wreck-It-Ralph & Frozen, so 2014). Directed by Don Hall, writer of Meet the Robinsons, Director of Winnie-The-Pooh. Curious.

It’s a fairy tale. It’s a musical, and Idina Menzel. You’re welcome.

Various versions of Snow Queen have been in and out of production since the Walt days.

The Brizzi Brothers (“The Flamebird” sequence in Fantasia/2000, The opening 10 minutes of Hunchback), were said to have done a fairly incredible pitch in the late 1990’s only to be shut down and moved to an even more incredible version of Don Quixote, which was also shut down.

Recently the film bounced around between directors most recently with Dean Wellins, and was famously shut down after Princess and the Frogs’ fairly unsuccessful showing and then put back into production after Tangled’s super successful showing (and I’m sure, positive buzz on Brave didn’t help) with Chris Buck (who’s co-director on Tazan, Kevin Lima directed Indina Menzel in Enchanted) with the less “princessy” name Frozen.

Winnie The Pooh

Today marks the release of the 51st Full Length Animated feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The 45th (or 44 1/2 due to Fantasia/2000) Traditionally Animated Film and last traditionally animated film until at least 2014/2015.

Unless, they’ve got something special planned for Snow Queen. Wait?! Snow Queen?! But I heard that Disney wasn’t making fairy tales anymore!! Hmm.

We’ll talk more in 2013 after we see King Of The Elves.

The 53rd Animated Feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Coming Christmas 2013 from Bolt co-director Chris Williams.

Didn’t I say something about this like four moths ago?! Hmm.

I’m pretty sure it’s CGi… I think the next Traditional Animated film is the one AFTER this.

Disney Officially announces their 52nd Animated Feature, ‘Wreck-It-Ralph,’ formerly Reboot Ralph. It may not be as pretty or glamorous as Rapunzel, but It’s pretty ambitious. this is your next year of Kevin, people. Prepare.

Reasons why Disney’s upcoming Winnie-The-Pooh will be fantastic:

  • Same writer/director as the hugely underrated/under-appreciated Meet The Robinsons (no, seriously, do yourself a favor and watch it)
  • Traditionally animated
  • The first Winnie the Pooh film animated by Walt Disney Animation Studios, in studio, since 1977’s The Many Adventures Of Winnie the Pooh.
  • Craig Ferguson as Owl
  • Many of the lead animators were actually assistant animators to the legendary classic animators on the last Pooh film.
  • Look at the image! Letters on the ground, because they live in a book! AMAZING!

Disney Animation Studios update:

So, there’s now 3 in development movies at Disney after Winnie-The-Pooh:

Reboot Ralph, cgi, original story.

King of The Elves, cgi, an adaption of the Phillip K. Dick story.

&

Mort, an adaption of the first Discworld Novel, traditional animation, directed by Ron Clements & John Musker (Great Mouse, Aladdin, Mermaid, Princess/Frog, Hercules, Treasure Planet).

No word on Snow Queen or My Peoples or A sequel to Home On The Range.

Tangled Update!

Tangled (at $168 mil) is $3 Million away from surpassing Tarzan to become the third highest domestic (us) grossing Disney Animation Studios Feature behind Aladdin & Lion King.

We are officially in the new golden age of Disney Animation.
